November Reads #1

Tepat pukul 22.00 WIB, Selasa 05 November 2019. Pilihan tertuju pada buku All the Light We Cannot See karya Anthony Doerr. Well, guess what, aku nggak tau mau nulis apa (as usual).

All the Light We Cannot See

Jadi, stop. Oke, kita ke goodreads.

Jadi kalo kata Goodreads kayak gini gaes
"Marie-Laure lives in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where her father works. When she is twelve, the Nazis occupy Paris and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.
In a mining town in Germany, Werner Pfennig, an orphan, grows up with his younger sister, enchanted by a crude radio they find that brings them news and stories from places they have never seen or imagined. Werner becomes an expert at building and fixing these crucial new instruments and is enlisted to use his talent to track down the resistance. Deftly interweaving the lives of Marie-Laure and Werner, Doerr illuminates the ways, against all odds, people try to be good to one another."
Ini reviewnya Will Byrnes, dia ngasih 5 stars, gilsss..
"Marie Laure LeBlanc is a teen who had gone blind at age 6. She and her father, Daniel, fled Paris ahead of the German invasion, arriving in the ancient walled port city of Saint Malo in northwest France to stay with M-L’s great uncle, Etienne. His PTSD from WW I had kept him indoors for two decades. They bring with them a large and infamous diamond, to save it from the Nazis. Daniel had made a scale model of their neighborhood in Paris to help young Marie Laure learn her away around, and repeats the project in Saint Malo, which is eventually occupied by the German army.
Werner and Jutta Pfennig are raised in a German orphanage after their father is killed in the local mine. Werner has a gift for electronics, and is sent to a special school where, despite the many horrors of the experience, his talent is nurtured. He develops technology for locating radio sources, and is rushed into the Wehrmacht to apply his skill in the war. His assignment brings him to Saint Malo, where his path and Marie Laure’s intersect."
Long short story, aku menganggap ini bacaan cukup berat. Ditambah kosa kata yang sulit, kayaknya bakalan lama banget buat nyelesaiin. Soalnya harus bolak-balik buka kamus huft. Menurutku juga, dibukunya lumayan deskriptif, agak boring jadinya. Si penulis mungkin orangnya attention to detail kali ya. Hmm..

Skuy kita carik lagii.. Cek wishlist lagii..

### few moments later ###

Oh gaesss ternyataa Bu Ratih Kumala itu istrinya Pak Eka Kurniawan toh, baru tau saya.

Jadi ceritanya gini.. Aku tadi ngubek-ubek want-to-read di akun goodreads ku. Dan, isinya series semua, males-lah aku. Sekalinya nemu, nemu Gadis Kretek karyanya Bu Ratih. Pas baca-baca reviewnya, eh ternyata beliau istrinya Pak Eka yang nulis Cantik Itu Luka. Wah mantul sekali pasangan ini. Dah sih gitu aja sekilas infonya wkwk.

Nah, pas baca-baca review, nemu satu review menarique yang membandingkan Gadis Kretek dan Canting. Bukunya siapa aku nggak tau juga gaes. Mari kita berselancar lagi.

Gadis Kretek     Canting

### not too long after that ###

See ya!
